We've built a new app for iPhone and iPad!
Sarcasm aside, we actually built Rideo (Ripley + video, get it?) for our own needs and realized a bunch of other people could probably use it too.
We have a bunch of videos saved offline for Ripley for car rides, hotels with crappy wifi, etc. so that we can watch them on the iPad. We realized recently that most existing offline video players for the iPad don't have a ton of customization options. If you need to add/remove controls, or change their size or position you're kind of out of luck.
Until now!
The basic pitch for Rideo is that it is a straightforward video player that you can adjust every single detail of.
Loop a clip over and over? It does that.
Replay the exact same 15 seconds? Pick your skip interval and go.
Run through a whole folder hands-free? Continuous Play moves to the next video automatically — shuffled, if you like.
Rearrange, resize, or remove every button? Obviously.
Stick the controls on any edge, or float them as a pill? Your call.
Keep the screen awake through a whole session? It won't doze on you.
Use it with VoiceOver? Every button is labeled, and the scrubber steps by your skip interval.
Sync all of that between iPhone and iPad? Settings follow you; your videos stay on-device.
And the list goes on!
We use the app for several hours a day right now, mostly for therapies, and it has totally changed the game for us. You could use it for anything though! And one of the best parts is that it doesn't copy or store any of your videos, so videos you already have saved in the Files app don't take up any extra space.
We have our crack team of artistic college students hard at work on the final branding and icon but for now, it's a big red square the exact color of Elmo!
It will likely be a while before we actually release Rideo and it becomes a paid app with some kind of free tier, so we're inviting 100 folks to help test it for free until then. We're looking for bugs, feature requests and any other feedback you might have.
Rideo requires iOS or iPadOS 26 or newer.
